Advice

I have several words of advice for next years class for second life english. The first is to make sure you do not take the class if you do not like computers or do not work well computers. Second life was an issue for me each time I had to use it. My computer would crash each time I attempted to be on second life for more than thirty minutes. Another word of advice, make sure that when you take an online class you keep up with when assignments are due. Sometimes it can be difficult to stay on top of school work when you do not have to attend classes regularly.

Ethics Scandal

I was amazed that there were a large group of ADULTS who cheated on a take home test. This were men and woman (probably with families) who had come back to school to try to improve themselves as business men and ultimately messed up their lives for quite some time. I feel like there are a lot of times where these men sneak up the ladder in business all while cheating. I feel like the saying "Once a cheater always a cheater" sums the idea of ethics in the workplace up. Once someone cheats and does not get caught it makes it that much harder not to cheat again. I have zero tolerance for cheaters.

ethics

This is a very difficult concept for me to talk about. I get very frustrated with the idea that anyone would have this kind of lapse in a job, school, or a life situation. The statics amazed me! I think that society accepts ethical laspses as the "norm". As hard as a company or a professor or anyone try to push eithics on individualsl, I do not feel like it matters. I think that ethics is a personal choice and it has to do with how you were raised and the amount of self-control you can display as a an individual.

Web Documents vs. Written Documents

Personally, I know that when I read something that is on paper I pay more attention to it. I really do not know if I could explain why I do this, other than I feel that the documents on paper may be more important to me. It is very easy to skip over sentences or even paragraphs when you are reading web documents. This is often due to the lack of organization that people choose to use when writing on the web. I know that I miss important, excellent information when I read an unorganized document. The benefit to using the Web is that it is much more time efficient and since we live in a world consumed with "saving time", it has become the way to write.

Spring Break

I had the incredible opportunity to go spend my spring break in New Orleans, Louisiana. If I could describe my spring break I would describe it as a time where I saw brokenness at its peak. It was humbling and upsetting to see people in the state in which I saw them. I worked with children in the morning. The organization that I worked with was a pre-school for three and four year old. Most of the families struggled financially and many of them lost their homes in the hurricane. Around noon, we moved over to work with the homeless that lived under the bridge. Unfortunately, the majority of the individuals that we worked also lost their homes in the hurricane. Most of the homes in the upper and lower ninth ward had been passed down through generations and many of them had multiple generations living in them. It is sad to know they cannot afford to rebuild, and most of them spent all of their money that the government gave them immediately on unnecessary tangible items. All of the individuals that are homeless who live under the bridge except for ten are completely addicted to alcohol, crack, and cocaine. The town of New Orleans will never be the same. It is town filled with drugs, gangs, and immorality. After spending only a week in the city, I found myself attached. I am considering moving to New Orleans when I graduate and working at a school that is in the ninth ward.

TAG company

Our group consist of me, Ben (Tuna), and Addie. Together we are going to build and start a company by the name of TAG. This company will deliver pizza's, groceries, and many other needs to people at all hours of the day. When choosing what type of business we thought second life needed, we definatley found that it lacked in the food industry area. I feel that this business, if run successfully will thrive. We have alot left to figure out, for example as Ben mentioned the payment (money) issue. I am excited about this company we have thoughtfully put together.

Reflection on Mock Interview

I felt like my interview went very well. I do realize that I may need to freshen up on the types of classrooms within special education. Although I know its bad to say, but I tend to get inclusion, exclusion, and self-contained mixed up. Going through my first real interview was very nerve racking. I definitely know that I will need to be more familiar with all of my special education terms before my first real interview.

Summertime

Summertime is my favorite part of the year. There are many reasons why I love the summertime. Although this does not sound intelligent, I love the fact that in summer I do not have to do school work. There is an island off the coast of North Carolina called Bald Head Island where I spend my summers.
There is nothing more wonderful than waking up and seeing God's creation at its best. The beauty of the sunrise and the sunsets each day make me joyful. Every summer I work at a poolside restuarant. I serve food and beverages. I love to see families together eating, swimming, and having a good time together.

week 6

I did not even know what cover letters were until I read these articles. I learned that a cover letter goes on top of a job application. Also, I learned that perspective businesses are not going to even look at the cover letter unless you are in their top few perspective employers. I will use the information on these websites to write my cover letter.

week 4 Second life Job interviews

I do not think that interviews on second life are a good idea. I think that seeing people face to face is very important for job interviews to take place. How they dress, interact with people, and how personable they are. Even phone conversations are better than meeting in second life. A positive aspect could be that it would be more affordable for business to not have to fly people out to interview them face to face. Another positive is that someone would fill more relaxed and be able to communicate more effectively because they can think better. Although there are some positive, I feel like it is critical that job interviews take place in person.

week 3....where I will be in ten years

After I graduate from Clemson, I want to get my masters in early intervention. I would love to work for a developemental center like CDC in Greenville as an early interventionists. I am extremely passionate about giving children with special needs the support they need. Although I want to work with the children, I plan on working with the parents as well. I want to ensure that each member of the family gets the support that they need. This would mean, holding support groups for siblings and parents, or setting the parents up with other parents who have a child that is struggling the same way developementally. My goal is to make sure that the parents never feel alone in raising this amazing child that God has given them.
I hope that I am married with three or four kids. I would love to own a pop-belly pig and a monkey. I plan to have a rescue shelter in the back of my house were I would house dogs that were without a home. I feel sorry for my husband!

Week 2

I am amazed daily at the technology we are surrounded by. My dad owns his own architectural firm. As a successful sixty year old business man he struggles keeping up with the technology he is presented with. My brother is also an architect. It is much easier for him to keep up with the technology and learn new concepts. Even the difference in the way they type amazes me. This could be one of the main reasons businesses are replacing young (technologically savvy) men for the older men. Technology will continue to change and become more advanced as time goes on, thus creating jobs that will continue to change.
